One of the most common questions is, "What is the difference
between Frogs and Toads?". Many
people don’t know the difference between frogs and toads. But, before I
tell you about defferences, I will tell
you about similarities.
The similarities between they are right from the way their eggs look and
hatch to the time taken for a tadpole to become a frog or a toad. Both the frog
and the toad are amphibians that live in both land and water. The word
amphibian comes from the Greek words amphi and bios,
which mean "double life". They both have long life spans of thirty to
forty years. Frogs and toads have similar diets. They are omnivorous feeding on insects,
worms, small fish, algae, and other
swamp creatures. In general, frogs prefer a moist
environment, while toads have adapted to both dry and moist environments. There is no difference in lifespan for
frogs and toads. The average frog or toad lives for 7 to 14 years while some
live to be 40.
Most of us confuse frogs and toads because
they look very similar. If only we cared to take a closer look, we can see
there are some differences between the two.
They are quite different animals, although
they belong to the same animal group. These frogs
have the characteristics are need to live
near water, have smooth, moist skin that makes them look “slimy”, have a narrow
body, have higher than toads, rounder than toads, bulgier eyes, have longer
hind legs, take long high jumps, and have many predators than toads.
Frogs have teeth in their upper jaw. Frogs can be
found on every continent except Antarctica. They are referred to as the
"true frogs" because of their generalized body form and life history.
Members of this family include the bullfrog, common frog, green frog, leopard
frog, marsh frog, pickerel frog, and wood frog.
And than the characteristics of Toads are do not need to live
near water to survive, have rough, dry, bumpy skin,
have a wider body, have lower, football
shaped eyes, have
shorter, less powerful hind legs, will run or take small hops rather than jump, do not have
many predators. Toads have no teeth. True
Toads can be found worldwide except in Australasia, polar regions, Madagascar,
and Polynesia, though Bufo
marinus has been artificially introduced into Australia and some
South Pacific islands.
However they look very similar, but actually
they are defferent animal and I hope, we can differentiate frogs and toads.
That is all comparison between frogs and toads.
